Six Dishes to Try at Chit Chaat Cafe

Everything is made by hand, every day, and all of it is 100% Halal. Here's where we'd start you. Six dishes, each one there for a reason. Between them they cover the whole range of what we do: street food, slow-cooked curries, biryani from the pot, and one thing you won't find anywhere else in Northern Virginia.
Samosa Chaat - The dish the place is named after.

Samosa Chaat - The dish the place is named after.

Hot samosas split open and layered with chickpeas, cool yogurt, sweet tamarind and bright green mint chutney, then buried under crisp sev. Sweet, sour, spiced and crunchy, all in the same mouthful. This is chaat at its best, and it's the dish that explains everything else on the menu. If you only try one thing, try this one.
Samosa Burrito - Ours, and nobody else's.

Samosa Burrito - Ours, and nobody else's.

Whole samosas, choley, green and brown chutneys, cilantro and onions, rolled tight and grilled. The samosas go in whole so they keep their crunch against the warm wrap, and every bite gets a bit of everything. It started because people kept ordering samosas and chaat together, and we wanted to give them all of it in one hand. It has been one of our most popular dishes ever since.
Butter Chicken - The one everybody finishes.

Butter Chicken - The one everybody finishes.

Tender chicken in a deep, glossy tomato and butter sauce, rich and gently spiced, with just enough sweetness to round it off. It is the most comforting thing on the menu and it never disappoints anyone. There's a reason it's our best seller. Bring someone who says they're not sure about Indian food, order this, and watch the conversation change.
Lamb Biryani - The showpiece.

Lamb Biryani - The showpiece.

Long-grain basmati layered with slow-cooked lamb and whole spices, so the rice carries the flavour all the way through and every forkful is a little different from the last. This is the one to order when you're properly hungry, when there are a few of you, or when the day has earned it. It's also the dish that disappears fastest at every party we cater.
Dal Makhani - The one people come back for.

Dal Makhani - The one people come back for.

Black lentils cooked long and slow with butter and tomato until they turn dark, glossy and velvety. It tastes like something that took all day, because it is. It is our most-loved vegetarian dish by a distance, and plenty of people who order it the first time only because someone else suggested it now order it every visit.
Pani Puri - The most fun you'll have at a table this week.

Pani Puri - The most fun you'll have at a table this week.

Delicate hollow shells, a spiced potato and chickpea filling, and a jug of cold, sharp, minty water. You fill one, you eat it whole, and the shell gives way all at once in a rush of cool and spice. There's one rule, and it's a good one: the whole thing goes in at once. No halves. It's the dish that gets a table laughing, and it's the reason people bring their friends back.

Soft, blistered, loaded with garlic. Order one more than you think you need.
